Where to find the VIN

Driver door stickerOpen the driver door and look at the edge of the door or the pillar it closes on. The sticker shows the VIN, often with a barcode.
WindshieldLook through the bottom corner of the windshield on the driver side. A small plate on the dashboard shows the VIN.
Title and registrationThe VIN is printed on the title, the registration card and the insurance card.
In a seller's messageGot the VIN as text? Type or paste it into the box instead.

Scan a license plate

Tap Scan, switch to Plate and fit the plate inside the box. The scanner reads the plate number, and often the state printed on the plate. Check both, then tap Find the car: we find the car's VIN from the plate and show you the car before you pay anything. A plate lookup shows the car, never the owner.

When it won't scan

The picture never leaves your phone. The scanner reads it right on the device; only the VIN or plate it finds is sent, when you look the car up.
